The Graduate School for Science of Matter, Radiation and Environment (GS SMRE) is one of 7 thematic regional doctoral schools. These 7 doctoral schools are part of the Graduate College Lille Nord de France, which oversees doctoral training in the Hauts de France region

The GS SMRE is multidisciplinary. It provides excellent research-based training in diverse fields such as physics, chemistry, earth and life sciences, and food biotechnology

Its purpose is to arrange and oversee the training of PhD candidates, with the goal of preparing them for their future careers in research, academia, as well as the business sector
