If you are coming to France from abroad to do your doctorate at U Lille/Centrale Lille/IMT Nord Europe for a short or long stay, you will need a visa to enter the country.

Visit the official visa website for France: FranceVisas : you'll find all the information you need to prepare for your doctoral studies in France
If your stay in France is for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 4 years, you should apply for a long-stay visa with a "talent passport" - researcher.

If you come from abroad (except for citizens of a European country or Algeria) and wish to work in France for more than 3 months, you can apply for a multiannual residence permit (carte de séjour pluriannuelle passeport talent). This card is issued in a number of situations (see the Service Public website). It is valid for a maximum of 4 years and is renewable
If you are from Algeria, more information is available on the Service Public website
The visa and residence permit are documents proving that you are legally resident in France

Under French law, you must carry them with you and renew your residence permit in good time, otherwise you will be in breach of the law

Further information is available on the website of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation
